Life Story

My Remembeer is Broke

Posted: October 28, 2009

My Rememberer is broke

My forgetter's getting better,
But my rememberer is broke
To you that may seem funny
But, to me, that is no joke

For when I'm "here" I'm wondering
If I really should be "there"
And, when I try to think it through,
I haven't got a prayer!

Oft times I walk into a room,
Say "what am I here for?"
I wrack my brain, but all in vain!
A zero, is my score.

At times I put something away
Where it is safe, but, Gee!
The person it is safest from
Is, generally, me!

When shopping I may see someone,
Say "Hi" and have a chat,
Then, when the person walks away
I ask myself, "who was that?"

Yes, my forgetter's getting better
While my rememberer is broke,
And it's driving me plumb crazy
And that isn't any joke.

I shall really miss Kay. She was a very special person and I loved her very much. We always used to sing "In the Sweet Bye and Bye" and "All That Will Be, Glory to Me." I've kept her picture on my bulletin board at work.

Art and Kay were always servants of Christ and much interested in foreign missions. They are now enjoying the fruit of their labors, praise God.kc

I've known Kay since I was in second grade when she and Art sat behind us at Calvary Baptist Church in Binghamton. When several church families moved to Sebring, Art's parents moved across the street from my mother. Later Kay and Art lived there until they built their own house. When I moved back to Sebring permanently I bought a house across from Kay's pineapple patch. She taught me how to grow pineapples and several other southern plants. The pineapple patch is now gone, thanks to the squirrels and raccoons who always harvested about a day before humans planned to, and the "harvesters" have now moved to my patch. In later years we had a "light" signal across the patch in case either of us needed help. I miss watching for that signal, and I miss her friendliness in the neighborhood. She was a good friend.

I have so many wonderful memories of my beloved Aunt Kay -- holiday celebrations growing up in Minnesota, visits with my mom Edna Hullar to Kay's Florida home (she loved to show us her pineapple patch!), and my final visit to her in the nursing home. Aunt Kay always had a smile on her face, a hug and a kiss at the ready, and she exuded such grace and peace in her own soft-spoken way. I rejoice that she is now with her beloved husband Art. My thoughts and prayers are with Karen, Allen and their families.

Dear Allen, Karen and families, Please accept our sympathy in the passing of your Mother Kay. She was a special multi-talented lady. Kay is "gone for a season" and we will meet again in Glory. God Bless you all, Gene and Lois Johnson

Dear Mom Barnes to me... has met her Master and once again with "pappa" Barnes. What a legacy she leaves. What an inspiration she was to me! May the joy of her homegoing overshadow the temporary loss as we wait to join her. Our love to each of you. Beth and George Roder
