Life Legacy

Dorothy Burns passed peacefully into the presence of her Lord on May 28, 2017, at Maranatha Manor in Sebring, Florida. She was 97 years young. Dorothy was born in Curwensville, Pennsylvania and was one of 10 children. She met her husband, Ralph O. Burns, at Practical Bible Training College in New York. Together they had six pastorates and served the Lord over 50 years. They had 3 children, 9 grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren. After retiring to Florida, they served over 25 years at Southside Baptist Church, until Ralph’s passing in 2011.
As part of her ministry, she opened her home and entertained countless missionaries, youth groups and Bible teachers. She truly was an angel with her caring spirit and sweet smile. Her personal testimony, like the hymn, was that “Jesus Led Her All the Way”.

Heaven is a little richer these days! Dorothy was my "unintentional" second Mom, and she bore the burden flawlessly.

Our deepest condolences to Sharon, Cherith, Dennis and their families. Mrs. Burns (like her husband) was always such a great example and encouragement to us. Faithful and gracious, she represented her Lord so very well.

Pastor and Mrs. Burns were a wonderful encouragement to me as a young teen at Community Baptist Church in South Bend. Over the years , I would see them when we visited my wife's parents at Maranatha Village. I will never forget the impact they had on me at that church.
