I've known Fred for awhile and enjoyed being his friend. I met Fred in the Barbershop and had the privledge of playing golf with him. My two girls (7 and 5) loved getting candy from him while I got my cut. When I told my oldest daughter that he passed away, she said "Awww, I loved him". Fred had many friends and I truly am honored to have been his friend. Fred, I will miss you and know that I will think of you often. Your friend, Chris Myers

I was so shocked to hear about Fred. I work with the Sheriff's Office and Fred has cut my hair for about the last four years. I really looked forward to every haircut to be able to chat with Fred about what he had been up to. Working on his new home, golfing and his family. I know he was very very proud of his daugther and spoke of his bother and sisters a lot. He told me about his trips to NC, SC, and not to long ago his trip to Texas with family. God Bless Fred's family, my thoughts and prayers are with you. Fred was more than a barber; for he touched many lives by just being who he was. Another member of Sheriff's Office only learned of Fred's passing today; and came to my office with tears in his eyes, to see if I too had heard. God Bless, Mark Schrader

"Mr. Fred" was such a blessing. Like others I looked forward to my next haircut to talk to Fred but also to see Fred interact with my son. My son loved to talk to Fred and of course reach into the candy jar after his haircut (Fred was kind enough to also tell my son to get a couple of pieces for my daughter as well). Fred was very proud of his daughter and spoke highly of the rest of his family as well. He worked well with children with special needs (I know of several children with autism that Fred worked with) and always seemed to have time to talk to everyone. What a blessing it was to have Fred in our lives and what a blessing it is have some great memories of him. Fred will be missed. God Bless his soul and may God look over his family as well

Freddie Collins was my uncle. He was truly a loving, caring, generous, and humorous individual. I have so many fond memories of him. When I was a child I remember him being a jokester, and teasing us kids. He is the only person I did not mind calling me by middle name. I am his niece Holly "Beth"! I am going to miss hearing those words coming from his voice. I remember once when I was six or seven, I had a loose tooth that needed to be pulled. It was hanging by a thread and I was too scared to let it be pulled. He was staying with us and he was teasing me about being a "scaredy cat". That night while I was sleeping something happened. The next morning I woke up and found my tooth was gone. I looked under my pillow and found the tooth fairy left me .75 cents. I know he pulled my tooth, but he has denied it my whole remaining life. Uncle Freddie you are one of kind. There will never be another uncle like you!

How sadden I was upon hearing of Fred's passing. I came to know Fred as a customer, however upon leaving after that first haircut, I realized I had found a new friend. We normally discussed sports; football, basketball, golf, etc. I chuckle each time I think of him as UNC would always find a way to creep into our conversation. He always spoke of his family, his Mother, his sister, both having passed this year. I'll remember Fred for his kindness and humor, but most of all for being "Fred:. I'll miss him.

Fred was a great guy and a great barber. He always greeted his customers with a friendly hello and had a sincere interest in their lives. He was great with my son and would offer him a lolipop. His devoted customers would wait 3-4 customers deep just to get their haircut by Fred. I will miss you brother. My sincerest condolences to his friends and family

Fred will truly be missed. As so many others in town, Fred cut the hair of my son and I. He was always so outgoing, so friendly, talking about Heather, sports and his house. He was so supportive of local sports especially at the high school. I will miss going in to the barber and not seeing Fred. Heather, I am so sorry and know that your dad was such a wonderful guy to all those around and loved and missed by so many. My prayers are with you. Fred, we will miss you, thanks for being a part of our life.
