Life Legacy

VAN GUNDY, D.J., 87, of Sebring, FL, died May 10, 2011 in Sarasota, FL. He was born in Groveport, OH and was sole survivor in a family of twelve brothers and sisters. Served as a Corporal in the Army Air Corps, W.W. II; He and his late wife, Jeanette raised their family in Miami, FL where he owned a successful mechanical contracting business. They retired to Lorida, FL in 1974 later moving to his home in Spring Lake Country Club. He became an active member of the club, and the men’s golf association. He recently moved to the Westminster Towers, Bradenton, FL to be closer to his family. He was a life-long Mason and enjoyed singing in various community groups as well as his church choir. He is survived by his loving family, D.J. Van Gundy, Jr, Suzanne Van Gundy, Carole Van Gundy and Marian King. He will be missed by his grandchildren, Douglas Van Gundy and Christine Wittman; as well as his many nieces, nephews, cousins and his many friends. Fisher House is a non-profit organization, providing housing and support for military families with loved ones in VA Medical Centers. Services, 9:00 am, Friday at Morris Funeral Chapel, family receiving friends one hour prior. Military Honors 12:30 pm, Friday at Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, FL.
