Life Legacy

ANDREW BETTS JACKSON of Sebring, Florida, age 77, passed on January 29, 2013 at Shands at UF in Gainesville. Andy was born in Sebring, Florida on January 6, 1936 at Dr. Weems Hospital. Preceded in death by his parents, Nathaniel Burke Jackson and Ruby Ione Rivers Jackson. Andy is survived by his loving wife, Ida Dorman Jackson; sons, Nathaniel Burke Jackson and wife Diana, of Alamogordo, New Mexico; Randall Kevin Jackson and Carolyn of Mineola, Texas; daughters, Crystal Leigh Jackson, Gainesville, Fl; and Amber Lynn Jackson, Deland, Fl; sisters, Sarah Virginia (Jackson) Thomas and brother-in-law, Dr. Gerald Monroe Thomas of Athens, Ga, and their children Gerald M. Thomas and wife, Gail; Dr. Stuart J. Thomas and wife, Sharon; Sue Thomas Townsend and husband, Whit; sister, Patricia Ione (Jackson) Lukens and brother-in-law, Samuel, and their children, Pricilla Lukens; Carol Lukens McFadden and husband James, and Mark Lukens and wife Pat; sister-in-law Evelyn Sapp and husband Gerald “Gator”, Palmdale, Fl; brother-in-law, Dr. John Dorman and wife Barbara, Gainesville, Fl; brother-in-law Charles Dorman and wife Kim, Sebring, Fl; and many nieces and nephews.
Graduate of Sebring High School 1954; Graduate of the University of Florida with a Bachelor’s degree in Economics and Juris Law, admitted to the Florida Bar 1964, and practiced law in Highlands County for nearly fifty years. While attending the University of Florida, Andy played baseball for the Gators and served two terms as president of his fraternity, Sigma Alpha Epsilon.
Andy proudly served in the United States Army including service at the Pentagon and in the Far East theatre stationed at Camp Zama, Japan, and a member of the U.S. Far East Champs Baseball Team.
Andy was the first elected Republican in Highlands county serving as County Commissioner, District 4, later serving District 3. He served as Highlands County Republican State Committeeman, 1980 -1996.
Some of his Community activities in public service include past President Highlands County Cattlemen’s Association, Board of Directors Lake Placid and Sebring Chamber of Commerce, Founding member of Highlands County Lay Education Committee, coached youth baseball, Lake Placid Jaycees, and lifelong member First Baptist Church, Sebring, Fl.

Visitation is scheduled for 10:00 AM, Saturday, February 2, 2013, followed by a Memorial Service at 11:00 AM, First Baptist Church Sebring, 200 E. Center Ave., Sebring, and Fl 33870.
