Life Legacy



Kathryn Elizabeth Owen,maiden name Abbott, was born in Page, West Virginia.
At the age of 3 she and the family moved to Huntington, West Virginia where she remained for the next 25 years until she moved to Miami, Florida and married.
Katie was a member of the United Methodist church in Huntington and often sang in the choir there.
At the age of 17 she started working full time as a stenographer paying most of the household bills for the family; times were difficult.
During the War years she helped by working for the defense division of Zenith Optical.
In 1945 she left for Miami and on March 10th married Bryon H. Owen, an auditor she met at Zenith.
Over the next 37 years she continuously worked for numerous firms as a book keeper.
During the 1950's she taught Sunday school at Plymouth Congregational Church in Coconut Grove Florida while her only child Robert was growing up.
In June of 1982 she retired and she and her husband moved to Sebring, FL where they would spend their last days. Bryon, her husband, passed away in February 1991.
While in Sebring she was a faithful member of The Highland County Doll Club until it disbanded at which time she joined the Sebring Doll Club.
She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary to the VFW in Kissimmee, Florida.
Katie, at the age of 93 1/4 passed away peacefully at home Sunday July 18, 2010 at 11:47 AM.
She is survived by her only child Robert now of Sebring.
