Life Legacy

RENKER, HARRY J., 88 of Sebring. FL died Friday, April 9, 2010 at the Palms of Sebring. He was born in Honeygrove, Texas and was a graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School. Harry briefly attended the University of San Antonio prior to enlisting in the U.S. Army Air Force and attended the Lincoln Aeronautical Institute, while serving in W.W. II in the south pacific he flew over 200 combat missions. Harry was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross and three Air Medals. After returning to the states, he served as Personal Pilot and Liaison Generals Trusdale and Candee at the command and general staff school Leavenworth. After being discharged from the Air Force in 1945 he joined Delta Air Lines in 1946 and logged more than 28,000 hours before retiring as Captain in 1976. He and his late wife, Gayle Irene Renker (Nov. 18, 2009), moved to Sebring. Harry was a member of the Airline Pilots Association; Sebring Elks Lodge; and held National 1st place in Trap Shooting for his age group; he enjoyed flying his ultra lites until he was 87. A member of First United Methodist Church, Sebring. He is survived by his son, Michael (Lynn) Renker, Aurora, CO; daughters, Sandra Renker, Peachtree City, GA, Karen LaCombe, Albuquerque, NM and Carole (Charles) Surginer, Carrolton, GA; seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Visitation 1:30 pm. Tuesday with a service to follow 2:00 pm at at Morris Funeral Chapel, 307 S. Commerce Ave, Sebring.
