Life Legacy

SINGLETARY, MARY ANN, 63, passed away February 27, 2012 at her Avon Park residence. Mary Ann, born on August 24, 1948, was the daughter of the late Ted and Amy Cason of Sebring. Like her parents, Mary Ann loved Sebring and was able to spend most of her life there. After graduating from Sebring High School, Mary Ann married Boyd Singletary of Avon Park. After a short term of military service in Pennsylvania, he and Mary Ann were able to return to Sebring with their infant daughter, Tammy. The compassion Mary Ann showed as a child for all of the injured or neglected animals that made their way to the Cason’s home on Dinner Lake translated into her training and subsequent employment as a respiratory therapist at what was then Highlands General Hospital in Sebring. Mary Ann left her job to care for her father and her sister Betsy. She devoted herself to their care in the years leading up to their deaths. Mary Ann’s husband, Boyd, passed away unexpectedly several years ago. She is survived by her daughter, Tammy; by Justin Shope, who has been like a devoted son-in-law; by her grandchildren William, Sydney, Emily, and Bailey; by her sister, Dr. Laura Cason of Ormond Beach, Florida; and by a very dear cousin, Sallie Joy Loomis, of Deltona, Florida. She will be dearly missed by others in her family and by friends who have cared about her over many years. Mary Ann’s faith in God gave her great comfort and confidence during her year-long illness. She was deeply appreciative of the care provided by both the Hospice of Volusia/Flagler and the Good Shepherd Hospice of Highlands County.

Condolences or Life Stories may be expressed in her Guestbook. Morris Funeral Chapel, Sebring, Fl.

I remember fondly my time spent with cousin Mary Ann during childhood holidays at her parents' home and later in her own home. I remember visiting her at work one time and how all the patients loved her. She had a true gift to place others at ease. At other times, primary activities were swimming and visiting. She made us feel welcome in her home as we would sit and talk for hours while her beloved collection of animals kept us company. Her friendship with all of us, particularly my mother, will be a light that shines within in the many happy memories I have of spending time with her. She laughed easily and easily made us laugh.

I had the pleasure of working with Casey at Highlands. She loved her patients and was the "BEST" respiratory therapist they had. She love to fish, and she loved nature and her animals. She will be missed. Love and sympathy to family, Nancy Davis
