Life Legacy



Leland Edwin Smith, 89, went to be with the Lord, Friday, January 16, 2015 at his residence. Leland was born August 17, 1925 in Whitestown, IN to Arthur K. And Fairy Groover Smith, he graduated from Whitestown High School in 1943 and then entered the Military serving with U.S. Marine Corps. Was a farmer for a few years and then built homes for National Homes several years and was a finish carpenter. Leland was married for over 55 years. Moved in 1967 to Lauderdale By The Sea, and a member of Coral Ridge Presbyterian Church, moving to Sebring, FL in 1981. A life member of the following: American Legion, Post #113, Lebanon, IN, Lebanon Elks, and the V.F.W., Post #4300; past Exhaulted Ruler in 1972 of Sebring Elks. He was preceded in death by a son, Ronald Smith, daughters, Nannette Smith, Dorothy Bernstein and his brother, Kenneth Smith. Leland is survived by his loving family, wife, Margaret; daughters, Therse (Don) Morrison, Frankfort, IN, Anita (Mike) Jarman, NC and Peggy (Tim) Pehlke, Dandridge, TN; son, John D. (Linda) Trips, Lebanon, IN; ten grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren. The family will receive friends 3:00 pm, Sunday, Jan. 18, 2015 at Morris Funeral Chapel with an Elks Service at 4:00 pm. Funeral Service, Monday 11 AM. at Morris Funeral Chapel with Pastor Ted Moore, officiating, pastor of Heartland Christian Church. Entombment at Oak Hill Cemetery, Lebanon, IN, on Saturday, January 24, 2015 with Military Honors. Memorial contributions are requested to Compassionate Care Hospice.
