VAN VALKENBURG, ROBERT H., 81 of Sebring, FL. passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family and the Good Shepherd Hospice Team. He was born in Batavia, NY, son of the late Harold and Dorothy (Nichols) Van Valkenburg. A member of Future Farmers of America; Robert retired, after 35 years as a Corrections Officer with the New York Corrections, moving to Sebring in 1991. A faithful member of St. John United Methodist Church and a member of the United Methodist Mens Group. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lillian E. Van Valkenburg on October 25, 2008. He is survived by his mother, Dorothy Van Valkenburg, Attica, NY, children, Robert (Susie) Van Valkenburg II, Sebring, David (Diane) Van Valkenburg, Cathie (Dennis) Turton, Peggy (Bill Simons) LaWall all of Attica, NY, Violet (Arthur) Allen, Cuylerville, NY; step-children, Brian (Judi) Bailey, Attica, NY and Byron (Valerie) Bailey, Uley, FL, 17 grandchildren; 32 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. Service at 1:00 pm. ,Thursday, St. John United Methodist Church. Memorials are requested to St. John United Methodist Church or Good Shepherd Hospice.

Bob and I lived about a mile apart from 1936 till 1945 "up on the hill" outside of Attica. We lived on Townline Rd - now Vernal Rd and Bob lived on East Main St. Rd. We attended West Middlebury #4 School District, Bob was a year behind me and in the same grade as my sister Ruth. Condolences to the family. He was a great guy, and we used to practice basketball in his father's barn
